4th Round Table Conference

We organized the 4th Round Table Conference that successfully roped in 100+ CEO's of the entire IT fraternity under one roof. Standing strong and unanimous. The main agenda points discussed by Dr. Umar Saif are as follows:

  • Initiating first nationwide IT Census. Why is it critical for the IT industry to hold a census and the methodology of it.
  • Launching National Entrepreneurs Network by bringing together the incubators, accelerators and co-working spaces from all across Pakistan to evolve the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
  • Formation of the industry-government & academia-government liaison committees.
  • Increasing digital literacy and reducing digital divide.
  • The agenda was very well received by the industry leaders. Mr. Faisal Shuja Khan, CEO OvexTechnologies Pakistan, moderated the entire conference.

3rd Round Table Conference

TechHub Connect hosted the third PITB - Roundtable Conference to gather the entire IT Industry of Pakistan to discuss and resolve issues pertinent to the industry. The conference was convened by the chairman of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), Dr. Umar Saif, himself. The primary agenda of this Roundtable Conference was to discuss the draft of Punjab IT Policy, which has been opened for public consultation, and to take all relevant stakeholders on board. More than 150 leading IT Professionals have contributed to the formation of this policy document through more than 20 focus groups, about 50 individual consultations and extensive in-house research. Moreover, it was announced that the role of Pakistan Software Houses Association has been leveraged in PITB procurement procedures. PITB's role in facilitation of visa processes was also explained & last but not the least, the announcement of an IT Census for the industry was made. 2nd Round Table Conference

Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), under the umbrella of TechHub Connect, hosted it's second Roundtable Conference at Arfa Software Technology Park. Roundtable Conference is an effort by the IT Board of Punjab to provide a platform to the IT industry to voice their problems and mutually find solutions to them. The participants at the conference included top executives from more than 150 IT Companies and officials from Punjab Revenue Authority, Federal Ministry of Commerce and Punjab Board of Investment and Trade. PRA officials assured the attendees that Punjab will continue with a zero tax policy for IT exports. Furthermore, officials from PBIT also reaffirmed government’s commitment to help the IT industry and welcomed Dr. Umar Saif’s suggestion of establishing special economic zones for the IT industry. Dr. Saif further informed the participants that PITB will work together with the Federal Ministry of Commerce and Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate visas for the IT industry and engage commercial consulates to bid for foreign projects. Dr. Saif apprised the participants that the government is committed to enable the IT industry grow further. This is reflected in Punjab Government’s decision to withdraw the 19.5% tax on Broadband internet, to support IT and IT Enabled Services. PITB is also launching the Digital Punjab Campaign, in collaboration with P@SHA, to enhance Pakistan’s image abroad and attract foreign investment in the country. He also informed the participants that the federal government is also considering a reduction in tax on revenue from 8% to 2% and is also likely to extend the tax holiday on IT exports for another three years. He further stated that PITB is in the process of finalizing a comprehensive ICT policy for Punjab, in collaboration with the IT industry and academia, which will create an enabling environment for the IT sector to flourish. The initiatives received unanimous approval from all participants and were heralded as a major step towards establishing Punjab as a major IT hub for domestic as well as global investors.
