A landmark USD 4 Million Korean grant is set to strengthen rehabilitation services in Punjab through the introduction of advanced robotic prosthetic technology and the establishment of a specialized rehabilitation facility at MAYO Hospital.
Regarding this, a Tripartite MoU was signed at King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Lahore with an aim to bring three key stakeholders of the Punjab Government together to roll out the initiative.
Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB)
PITB will provide the required IT infrastructure, digital systems and technology support for the project. A dedicated Project Management Unit (PMU) will be established at Arfa Software Technology Park (ASTP) to coordinate project implementation, monitoring and digital integration and applicant registration.
Social Welfare Department (SWD) / Maryam Ko Batayn
SWD will facilitate verification and scrutiny of applications for prosthetic support in accordance with the approved eligibility criteria, ensuring that assistance reaches deserving beneficiaries.
King Edward Medical University (KEMU)
KEMU will establish a specialized centre for the customization, fitting and installation of robotic prosthetics, providing beneficiaries with advanced rehabilitation and clinical support.
The partnership represents a significant step towards combining Korean technological expertise with Punjab’s healthcare, social welfare and digital governance capabilities to deliver sustainable and technology-enabled rehabilitation services.
