PITB representatives gave a live demonstration of the Sugarcane Monitoring System (SMS) to Secretary Food, Secretary Industries, and Director Food. Developed in collaboration with the Government of Punjab, SMS can track and monitor the supply chain from the purchase of sugarcane at the mills to the delivery of the product in the market.
The system also enables the sugar mills to record sugarcane purchased from the farmer and quantity crushed on daily basis. Through this system the government will be able to identify and contain sugar hoarding and devise strategies to eliminate shortages and frequent price hikes.
