Livestock & Dairy Development Department, Punjab Secretary Muhammad Masoud Anwar chaired a consultative session organized by PITB regarding the introduction, benefits and implementation of Pakistan Animal Identification & Traceability System (PAITS). Representatives from Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Livestock Department Punjab and renowned commercial dairy farmers also participated in the session.
PITB Director Ali Raza Kheiri and SPM Rana Umair briefed the participants about the functionality and process flow of PAITS system. The livestock secretary encouraged the commercial farmers to enroll themselves in the system, highlighting its importance as the national database for livestock. The secretary also assured the farmers of complete support to pave the way for a thriving livestock local and international industry.
FAO representative shared the potential benefits of PAITS that included enabling farmers to make informed decisions about their livestock, improved breeding practices, disease management and overall animal health leading to increased productivity and profit for the farmers.
